In Calgary, Alberta, WestJet Airlines Ltd. has its headquarters near Calgary International Airport. Averaging 777 flights per day, WestJet is the second-largest Canadian airline, carrying more than 66,130 passengers each day. With 25.49 million passengers in 2018, WestJet ranked ninth in North American airlines in terms of passengers. A brief history

As of 1996, Westjet flights operated only between Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, and Winnipeg. Calgary International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport are its hubs of operation. Its current headquarters is located in Calgary, Alberta. For its operations, the company primarily has a focus on the  Vancouver International Airport, Edmonton International Airport, and Manitoba James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.

The destinations

Over 100 destinations are served by its scheduled flights in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe, in addition to over 175 destinations through its airline partnerships in over 20 countries. {list_destinations}. There are more than 60 destinations offered by WestJet.

The fleet

Over 13,000 people are employed by Westjet, which boasts a fleet of 184 aircraft. Currently, Boeing aircraft dominate the mainline fleet, while Bombardier Q400s are flown by Encore, a wholly owned subsidiary. Up to 25 more units could be ordered with the original order of 20.

The check-in procedure

Up to 24 hours before departure, passengers can check in for their WestJet flight using their booking reference number. A one-hour period before take-off is required to complete online check-in. The online check-in process also allows passengers to change their seat assignments, add luggage allowances to their bookings and switch to an earlier flight, in addition to printing their boarding cards. Prior to their scheduled departures, passengers can check in up to 3 hours in advance at the airport.

Allowances for luggage

In order to board a WestJet flight, passengers are permitted to bring only one piece of hand luggage that is not larger than 53 by 23 by 38 cm. Personal items with dimensions of 41 x 15 x 33 cm are also allowed on board. Up to four pieces of checked luggage can be checked by passengers. There is a maximum weight limit of 23 kg for each piece of checked luggage. 

Seating classes and service categories

Business Class - WestJet offers business class passengers lie-flat seats with custom pillows and blankets. Guests receive complimentary beverages before taking off and have plenty of storage space. Along with an amenity kit, business class passengers receive priority check-in, security, boarding, and baggage handling.

Premium - WestJet's premium class offers all guests a full range of value, benefits, and services that will make their travel experience a memorable one. A 2-3-2 seat configuration is used in business class, which is located in a separate cabin.

Economy - In-flight entertainment for Economy class passengers is available on an 11.6' touch screen monitor outfitted with comfortable headrests.

On-board services

There are complimentary drinks and snacks offered on WestJet flights under four hours. There is a bar that sells alcoholic beverages. A special needs assistance program is offered by Scoot. Staff on the ground provide wheelchairs and airport assistance during check-in. Depending on their needs, passengers can choose from a variety of services.
