Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey and a member of the Star Alliance. With its headquarters in Istanbul, it operates from a hub at Istanbul Atatürk Airport and a secondary hub at Ataturk International Airport, both in Istanbul.

The quality of Turkish Airlines' airport and onboard products as well as staff service has earned the airline a 3-Star rating. The product rating includes seats, amenities, food and beverage, IFE, cleanliness, etc., while the service rating includes both passengers and ground staff.

History

Turkish Airlines was established on 20 May 1933 as State Airlines Administration (DHY). It was founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his colleagues as a way to introduce aviators into the Turkish Armed Forces. It was established by merging three airlines: İpek Havacılık (IHA), Doğuş Havacılık and Kuveyt Havacılık. THY became a private company in 1990 and remained so until 1997 when it became a public company again. It is owned by the Turkish government via the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM).

Destinations

Turkish Airlines has been serving more than 500 destinations across 140 countries on 6 continents. The airline has grown steadily over the years by introducing new destinations and increasing frequencies to existing ones. In the last 10 years it has added more than 100 cities to its network. Today, Turkish Airlines flies to more than 200 destinations across 6 continents from its base at Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) including {list_destinations}.

Turkish Airlines also operates its own cargo unit, which offers daily flights between Istanbul and Frankfurt as well as weekly flights between Istanbul and Hong Kong/Beijing/Shanghai.

Fleet

In April 2022, Turkish Airlines has a fleet of 372 aeroplanes, including 13 different types of passenger aircraft, with the most popular types being the Boeing 737-900ER, Airbus A321-200, Boeing 737 MAX 9, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and among others.

Check-in

Hand and Hold Luggage Allowances

There is a restriction on the number of pieces of luggage a passenger can take on board in Economy Class. Each passenger can only bring one piece of cabin baggage that is 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm in size and 8 kg in weight, as well as one personal item that is 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm in size. In Economy Class, one can carry up to two bags of 50lb/23kg each (= 100lb/46kg per passenger).

In Business Class, one can carry up to two bags weighing 70lb/32kg apiece (140lb/64kg total).

Services and Seats

There are different classes of service on a Turkish Airlines flight.

Economy Class: This is the standard class of service, and it offers a variety of perks. Passengers who choose this option will have access to the Economy Plus section, which is located at the front of the plane and offers more legroom.

Services on Board

On domestic flights, the airline provides catering services. On international flights, the airline serves cold/hot drinks and warm options.

Business Class: Domestic flights

In the dining service, they serve a variety of Turkish cuisine delicacies, such as meatballs, karnıyarık (eggplants with minced meat), mantı (Turkish ravioli), as well as tastes of other cuisines and bottled water.

Economy Class: Domestic flights

In economy class, they serve a variety of cold sandwiches, appetisers, fruit juice, and water, the contents of which do not change with the departure time of the flight.
