Austrian Airlines is the national airline of Austria and a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. Austrian Airlines flies in Europe, Asia and North America. In addition to its own flights, and offers a comprehensive network of connections via its participation in the Star Alliance network and code-sharing agreements with other airlines.

Austrian Airlines has an excellent reputation for its service and is one of few airlines that still offers free meals on short haul flights within Europe. Austrian's onboard food is often praised by travellers as being better than some other European airlines'.

The airline is certified as a 4-Star Airline due to its quality in airports, onboard service, and product. Product ratings include seats, amenities, food and beverages, information displays, cleanliness, etc., and service ratings take into account cabin staff as well as ground staff.

History

The airline was formed in 1957 by the merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways, but traces its history back to 1923 at the founding of Austrian Airways (German: Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG). During the 2000s, the airline expanded through the acquisitions of Rheintalflug and Lauda Air, thus becoming one of Europe's largest carriers.

In 2007, it was listed as one of Europe's 10 most successful airlines according to Air Transport World magazine. Austrian began to offer low-cost air services from Vienna starting in 2003, when it acquired the former SkyEurope Airlines, which had been formed by merger between two Czech airlines, Travel Service and Air Bohemia.

Austrian repeatedly ranks among the highest airlines in the world for customer satisfaction and is known for its high quality service. In addition to being one of the largest full service airlines in Europe, Austrian also operates a low-cost carrier, Austrian Arrows.

Destinations

Austrian Airlines currently flies to 6 domestic and more than 120 international destinations both year-round and seasonally across 55 countries as of November 2020. The destinations includes {list_destinations}. It also operates a code-share agreement with United Airlines on flights between Vienna and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Newark. The airline also has codeshare agreements with other carriers including Air Berlin, TAP Portugal and Lufthansa Regional.

Fleet

Austrian Airlines has one of the best fleets in Europe. It has 61 aircraft, including Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 767-300ER, Airbus A321-100/200 and Airbus A320-200. The company also operates a small number of Embraer 195 aircraft.

Whenever you fly with Austrian Airlines, passengers are given the ability to bring 1 cabin baggage piece as well as 1 personal item like a handbag or laptop case. There is a limit of 55 x 40 x 23cm for cabin baggage dimensions or an 8kg weight limit for cabin luggage weight.

The free baggage allowance is determined by the kind of ticket and the route you are taking.

The maximum weight and length of a bag for European routes per passenger is 23kg and 158cm It is recommended that, for intercontinental routes, one bag per passenger must not exceed 23kg and 158cm in length.

Services and Seats

Standard seat

You can choose to window, isolate, or centre. Reservations for your preferred seats can be made during the booking process or later through "My bookings" or in the online check-in process - and you can make them up to a year in advance.

Extra legroom seat

If you are taking your next flight, be sure to request a seat with additional legroom. In most cases, these seats are located on the emergency exit rows, where they are usually wider than the front rows.

Preferred seating zone

With Austrian Airlines, travel is easier and faster because you can depart the aircraft more quickly after landing when you have a seat in a preferred seating zone. In Economy Class, this is typically located towards the front of the aircraft.

Their Premium Economy passengers occupy the seating area behind this area on long-distance flights and our Business Class passengers occupy this area on short and medium-distance flights.

Seat in Business class
