Verona is a very beautiful and second largest city in northeastern Italy. This city is located on the Adige River in Veneto, Italy. Arena di Verona (Roman Amphitheatre)

It is one of the largest of its kind and was built in 30 AD. It is very huge and now is used for the internationally famous large scale opera performances.  In the old times, this arena used to have capacity to hold around 30,000 people. Now it has 44 rows for seating which can accommodate 22,000 spectators.  This Arena is constructed from white and pink stones which earlier used to have three tiers of arches but only two of them have survived. There was music, dancing, circus acts but most of the citizens came to see the blood sports which were held there. This arena has a huge history of about 2,000 years behind its back.  In the months of July and August it serves as home to the World’s famous Opera Festival. In the year 2026, it will be used as the Closing Ceremony venue for the Winter Olympics and after two weeks it will also be used as the Opening Ceremony for the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Milan. 

The Verona Cathedral

The Verona Cathedral is also known by the name of Santa Maria Matricolare Cathedral. It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located in the northern part of Italy and completely dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This popular Cathedral was consecrated on September 13, 1887. There were villas with private thermal baths and probably also a few temples, during the Roman Empire in the area of the Church. It was destroyed greatly by an earthquake in 1117 A.D. Later it was reconstructed which took around 20 years. It is heavily decorated from inside and looks very amazing. It is a complex that consists of many buildings and other places of worship which are linked to the religion, culture, history and traditions of the city. The reconstruction of this cathedral began in 1120 in a splendid composition of various materials, tuff with white and rose colored marble, together with ceramic tiles. It holds a lot of history and is very rich in architecture. You will get to know a lot of things about this city when you visit this Cathedral.
