Flights to Timisoara

The city of Timișoara, which was founded on the foundation of an ancient Roman fortification named Castrum Regium Themes, was first mentioned in 1212.

Timișoara, the main city in west Romania, has been impacted by different civilizations over the years. It was utilised as an important gateway fortification by the Romans until it was destroyed by the Tatars in the 13th century. Timisoara was conquered by Turkish soldiers in 1552 and continued under their protection until 1718 when the province of Banat fell under Austrian authority for the next two centuries. Timisoara eventually developed into an important commercial and manufacturing centre. Turks, Serbs, Austrians, and Germans all left their imprints, which can still be seen in areas around the city today. The allure of this city, located on the northern bank of the Bega River, is derived from its particular architectural character and rich cultural life. Timișoara, sometimes known as "Little Vienna", is home to musical and theatrical acts, art galleries, museums, and a thriving nightlife. Timișoara, a dynamic and cosmopolitan city, was the first in Europe and the second, after New York, to utilise electricity to enlighten its streets.

When to Visit Timisoara

Springtime (March through May)

The blend of temperature and humidity makes springtime mildly frosty. High temperatures vary between (25.1°C) to (and 9.3°C), with higher temperatures in the latter months. Rainfall is relatively uncommon, with just 0 to 1 day of considerable precipitation each month. Springtime is the second most populous season for travel, making it an excellent time for anybody looking for activities.

Summer is here! (June through August)

The atmosphere in the midst of the year is very nice, with warm peak temperatures. The precipitation is mild throughout these months, with 1 to 2 days of precipitation every month. Because June and August are the busiest months for travellers in Timisoara, hotels and other facilities may be pricier than usual.

Autumn (September through November)

The daily highs in the fall vary from (25.8°C) to (7.8°C), which will feel cool due to the humidity and wind. It rains or snows on average 0 to 2 days every month. Because of the weather, tourism is rather quiet during these months, therefore hotel rates may be reduced.

During the cold season (December through February)

Timisoara's temperature is considerably too chilly this time of year to be suitable for warm-season visitors. The average temperature during this season fluctuates from (9.3°C) and (to 2.9°C). On average, it rains or snows just a few days every month: from 0 to 1. These are the slowest periods of the year for travellers.

Good to Know About Timisoara

While towns such as Bucharest and Braşov are popular tourist attractions, the western section of Romania is sometimes underestimated. It's a pity because you'll miss out on gorgeous Sibiu, my favourite city in Romania. A city near the border with Serbia. Timişoara deserves greater recognition as the 'European Cultural Capital 2021.' It contains everything a person requires for a wonderful city escape. A vibrant historical district, with busy squares, wonderful restaurants, and very reasonable rates. Then there's a strong possibility you'll enjoy Timişoara as well. Because of its architecture, this city is commonly referred to as "Little Vienna." The city centre was planned by 19th-century Hungarian architects, the majority of whom received their training in Vienna. They introduced Timişoara to Art Nouveau, an architectural style influenced by floral themes and flowing lines. The Lloyd Palace in Victory Square and the Bruck House in Union Square are two of the most stunning Art Nouveau structures in the city.

Best Places to See in Timisoara

Union Square

Begin your Timisoara explorations with a stroll around Union Square, which was named at the end of WWI in 1919. Timisoara has three main squares, but this one was everyone’s favourite.

It's surrounded by colourful and interesting buildings, and it's a nice area to relax with a cocktail in the summer. It's also Timisoara's cultural core, with the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and St George's Catholic Cathedral facing each other.

Casa Bruck

Arriving at Union Square, this odd structure instantly drew attention. Casa Bruck, designed in the Art Nouveau style, is one of Timisoara's most attractive attractions. You may have noticed an unusual number of pharmacies in Romania, owing to a lack of drug control and the chance to profit from this. In the early 1800s, a rich family ran a pharmacy on this site.

It was purchased from them in 1910 by Salomon Bruck, an architect who redesigned it and named it for himself. On the bottom floor, there is still a pharmacy.

Victory Square

Although Victory Square is Timisoara's biggest square. Nonetheless, Victory Square has a few of Timisoara's landmarks, as well as a big paved space where inhabitants rest and socialise. On a beautiful day, this is the finest area to people-watch and absorb the ambiance. This is the location of the "She-Wolf Statue," "Lupa Capitolina Landmark," or "Lupoaicei's Statue." It is a replica of the fabled monument that depicts Remus and Romulus, the two founding members of Rome who were nurtured by a she-wolf.

Victory Square, like many other squares with the same name in Eastern Europe, commemorates the overthrow of communism in 1989. Because of the large opera theatre in its centre, it is also known as Opera Square.

The Orthodox Cathedral

The Orthodox Cathedral, which stands 90 metres tall and has 11 towers, is the most famous Timisoara attraction for both tourists and residents. Make sure you get inside. There's gold everywhere!

It has a capacity of 5,000 people, making it one of the largest orthodox cathedrals outside of Russia. Inside, I observed people lit candles for their loved ones, reflecting on how varied but similar buildings of worship are all around the world.

Art Museum

Timisoara's Art Museum is housed within this sumptuous Baroque castle near Union Square. Traditional art enthusiasts will be delighted because the majority of the artworks date back many centuries.
