Is there a bad day to enjoy a good glass of Porto wine by the sea? Even if you are not a wine lover, Porto has a lot to offer to motivate even the most selective and experienced travelers. However, if you plan to get a city break in this little yet charming city, you might consider high season is from June to September hence it might get busy at this time of the year. The second-largest Portuguese city is the perfect combo of elegant restaurants, cultural sites with a historical value which are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. Visiting in the low season might reduce the trip budget for the flight tickets and allow you to avoid the crowds of summer days.
Mid-November to mid-March is what locals call the cold time of the year with temperatures during the day between 13C to 18C and at night as cold as 5C to 10C. That sounds like summer in many countries, right? However, when you plan a trip to Porto in winter be prepared it's the rainy season and you might get shower rains or even heavy rains during your stay. In very few places it snows, however, given the relatively high temperatures in winter you must be very unlucky to see snow in Porto.
Summer brings mild weather with temperatures in summer reaching 25C to 32C. The hottest days are in July and August and if you're a sun lover, that's your time to visit.
Regardless of the season, you chose to visit Porto, there are a few things "must-do" once you pick this lovely destination. The trip down the river of Douro will take you all the way wine merchants used to take from the valleys to the cellars, pass near the 6 famous bridges, one of which, Dom Luis I Bridge, was designed by the famous Gustav Eiffel. The standard price for a boat trip ticket is 14 euros. However, Porto doesn't only have boats! Surprisingly, a tram can take you on a nice sightseeing ride exploring the quiet and cozy streets of Porto. The ticket price starts at 3.5 euros for a one-way ticket and 6 euros for a roundtrip. Our suggestion is tram nr. 1, 22 and 18. And if you got a little bit hungry and need some energy for the lots of steps you are going to make in Porto, enjoy some delicious local food at Ribeira Square. Don't forget the Pasteis de Nata, a local traditional desert, to boost your energy level and just make you fall in love with Portuguese cuisine.
