When to go to Nice

Nice is perhaps one of the most popular destinations on the french riviera. With specific architecture, cozy streets, and of course, the beaches, Nice is very busy in summer. Starting from mid-May until late September, Nice becomes the favorite destination of the rich and famous as well as the family travelers on summer holidays with children. Everyone can have a nice time and charge their batteries in the beautiful french city. It is worth mentioning there are a few events in the cities near Nice that will make hotel rates skyrocket in Nice, like Grand Prix in Monaco (usually in May) or the Cannes film festival. This is why our tip is to make sure you book in advance your flight ticket and hotel for the summer stay in Nice.

What’s the weather like in Nice?

The weather in Nice is warmer than in the rest of France. Winters are mild, with sunny periods alternating with rains. It gets cold when the northern wind reaches the south of France, which is normally quite rare. It is not common to snow in Nice, however lately this happens more often than before. Summers are hot and sunny. African winds and the 970 hours of sun in the summer months can be quite a hot combination for sightseeing and walks around the city. The sea temperature varies between 20 to 24C during the summer months.

What to do and see in Nice

What else if not a walk on Promenade Des Anglais will make a great start to your holidays in Nice? The promenade is stretched along the waterline which includes several private and public beaches. Access to a private beach costs around 20 euros and at this price, it includes a sunbed as well. To see it from above and to enjoy the gorgeous view of the city, you would have to get to Castle Hill Park. On your left will open an endless sea view and promenade view, while on your right the hundreds of red roofs will show you the city from a new angle. If you don't feel like climbing the stairs, you can take the lift, which offers free access.

If you are a foodie type of traveler, we suggest visiting the Flower Market, which is near the old town. The market is open every day until 1 PM, except Mondays. This market has one-century history originally being the place where flower vendors would bring their production of flowers to sell it and ship it to other destinations all around the country. Nowadays 2/3 of the market is fruit and veggies market and just 1/3 remains as a flower market. From here you can wander on the small streets of the old town, visit the Justice Palace, have a walk at the Fountain of the Sun, which is also the main square of the city. There is plenty of choice in this area for nice small restaurants and terraces. The local cuisine has an Italian influence, uses fresh and flavorful ingredients and of course, it's light as it should be in a Mediterranean destination.
