When to go to Madrid

What comes to your mind when you think about Madrid? Paella, sangria, Real Madrid or perhaps corrida? Whatever it is, Madrid's diversity of perks is just mind-blowing! From budget trips to luxury holidays, Madrid is always a good option. With hundreds of coffee shops, parks, and perfectly preserved architecture, the heart of Spain has a special vibe that will leave you no chance and you will fall in love with it! We wouldn't be able to mention a high and low season for the Madrid holidays. Spring and autumn is the best time to visit weather-wise, however, winter holidays or summer can not be bad in the iberic capital city.

What’s the weather like in Madrid?

Summer temperatures reach an average of 25C in July and August, this being the reason why most activities start in the evening and at night. Usually in countries with hot weather in summer dinner is very late and Madrid is not an exception. Autumn months are nice and just right warm to explore parks and have long walks. In October the average temperature is around 15C. November is rainy and cold. The Winter months are rainy and in December average temperature is 7C, there are not many sunny days and if you get tired and cold you can pop up at any Chocolateria in Madrid to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with churros. Spring is coldish until May when temperatures start going up, the sun is shining more and parks become green and trees are in blossom.

What to see and do in Madrid

Madrid has a lot to offer in terms of tourist attractions. Parks, squares, and museums will impress you with their elegance. If we were to take our friends to Madrid we would show them these places:

Puerta del Sol. It's the most popular square in Madrid known as the meeting place. It is considered to be the Kilometer Zero or the starting point of all roads in Madrid. So, if you start exploring Madrid this might be just the right start.

If you travel to Madrid during the winter holiday season, at Plaza Mayor, there is a gorgeous Christmas Market where you can admire local vendors' small boutiques, warm up with a glass of hot mold wine and take home a nice souvenir. If you visit Plaza Mayor, don't skip the Casa de la Panadería, a bakery that opened back in 1500 and one of the first in Madrid.

Spain still has a royal family and it might be interesting to visit the Royal Palace of Madrid which dates from the 18th century. The Guard Change takes place every Wednesday at 11 AM from October to July.

Gran Via is probably the most famous street in Spain and the fame is well deserved. This is the main street in Madrid with a vibrant atmosphere made by hundreds of shops, restaurants, small terraces, and big buildings hosting businesses. This is why here you will see tourists taking pictures, locals doing shopping and meeting friends, and people in business attire looking very busy. Long story short, if you haven't been to Grand Via you should come back to Madrid.

Retiro Park is a small piece of jewelry in the middle of a megapolis. Best sunsets and a great mood are guaranteed if you spare some time to visit this park.

Reina Sofia museum is a must-see place for art lovers. Here you can find paintings by Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Joan Miro.
There is free entrance between 7 PM to 9 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays to Saturdays, and Sundays from 1:30 PM until 2:15 PM.

Of course a Flamenco show is never a bad idea. It's just the same if you leave Spain without trying sangria. Flamenco is a traditional Spanish dance with clapping and singing and you can find many restaurants that showcase Flamenco in the evening.

And finally, we hope you will connect with Spanish culture and traditions in the best way for you because Madrid has so much to offer to every tourist, for every taste and interest.
