What to see in Hamburg

Speicherstadt

Hamburg joined the German customs in 1888. Then the work started on the new area of the warehouse. In that period, new storage objects were made on the oak piles and together with Gothic architecture. In this manner Speicherstadt was made. Speicherstadt (City of Warehouses) is protected as a site of world heritage. Walking through the area, with red bricks, and a lot of canals can be very pleasant.

Nowadays, a part of the warehouses are apartments. Some of the objects from the warehouse are now attractions. And there are some warehouse objects which are still used for storing tea, spices, electronics and coffee.

HafenCity

Right next to the Speicherstadt, HafenCity has been a quarter since 2008. This area is continuously growing and it creates homes for around 12 thousand people, and offers jobs for over 40 thousand people. There is a mixture of old and new, has office blocks with glass, and old apartment buildings. The best part for seeing it is the Elbphilharmonie concert hall.

Elbphilharmonie

This is the tallest object in Hamburg, with more than 100 metres tall. It has an enigmatic design, often compared to a quartz crystal. On the facade there are a large number of windows, and on the top is an observation place and a café. The concert hall is one of the most advanced places for listening to the Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. It has room for more than 2000 visitors.

Planten un Blomen

Planten un Blomen is one of the best urban parks. It consists of gardens, ponds, lawns, botanical plantations and greenhouses. In these gardens, you must see the Old Botanical Garden, made in 1821.

International Maritime Museum

Hamburgs’ museum is situated in Kaispeicher B, the oldest object in Speicherstadt. It was first opened in 2008. The museum was firstly made of the collection of Peter Tamm, who had a lot of models of ships and marine artefacts. But the clubs here are great to visit, and many youngsters are living here. There are a lot of places where the Beatles are incorporated as a subculture. Three clubs who were favourites in the 60s are still active, those are Indra, Kaiserkeller/Große Freiheit 36 and Moondoo.

Miniatur Wunderland

A complicated software is commanding different moving parts, like the traffic, people and other parts.

Since 2017 the miniature world has consisted of around 15 kilometres of track. The visitors can switch around 200 buttons which control windmills, a helicopter shuttle, a space shuttle and many more.
