The Romanian national air transport company was established on March 31, 1954, and has been a member of the SkyTeam Alliance since June 25, 2010. The company operates over 50 own destinations as well as destinations that are connected by codeshare partners. TAROM's fleet consists of 23 aircrafts and it is a long-time member of the International Air Carriers Association (IATA).

A few years after its launch in 1956, Tarom had started operating all across Europe. In 1966 TAROM made its first flight over the Atlantic. In 1969 an IL-18 plane departed Bucharest for Delhi, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Honolulu before circling the Earth over 47000 km of distance with one stopover in Los Angeles to visit Mexico City (Dallas), New York, London, and Istanbul.
In 1980, the company's transportation capacity was double that of 1975 and ten times its founding year. The first non-stop flight over 10 thousand kilometres between Bucharest and Bangkok took place in 1981.

Two AIRBUS A-310 aircraft were purchased in 1992, two BOEING 737-300 aircraft in 1993, and three other BOEING 737-300 aircraft a year later joined the TAROM fleet. In the period 1998 - 2000, the TAROM fleet was enriched with seven ATR 42-500 aircraft for domestic and regional flights, and in the next period, 2001-2004, TAROM acquired four BOEING 737 - 700 aircraft. TAROM continues its fleet modernization process so that between 2006 and 2007, four AIRBUS A318 aircraft were purchased. In 2009 TAROM increased its ATR fleet by two ATR 72-500. In 2017 and 2018, four BOEING 737-800 NG aircraft were leased for operational leasing, bringing the TAROM fleet to 23 aircraft.
Tarom check-in is a quick and easy process. When you arrive at the airport, you need to go to the Tarom check-in counter located in the domestic terminal. You will be given a boarding pass for your flight and a luggage tag for your luggage. You can also check-in online for your Tarom flight up to 2 hours before departure.
As a TAROM passenger, you have the right to carry in your cabin hand luggage that must not exceed the following dimensions: 55x 40x 20cm (length x width x height) if you are travelling onboard a Boeing or Airbus aircraft. If you are travelling in an ATR 42 / ATR 72 aircraft, your cabin baggage should not exceed the dimensions of 35x 30 x 20cm (length x width x height).
