Scandinavian Airlines

SAS or Scandinavian airlines carry the flags of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Its headquarters are located at the SAS Frösundavik Office Building in Solna, Sweden. The airline covers various destinations within and outside Europe. It became the founding member of Star Alliance in 1997. The airline became the eighth largest airline in Europe in 2017 and is known for offering the most comfortable journey.

History

Founded in 1946, the airline started operation in September 1946 when the first aircraft flew between Stockholm and New York. SAS started scheduled flights in 1954 with Douglas DC-6Bs. The company purchased jets in 1959. Their fleet included Sud Aviation Caravelles. They made another purchase, the Douglas DC-8, in the same year. It became the first European airline to introduce an electronic reservation system and was also declared the most punctual airline of that time.

Scandinavian airlines operate more than 100 aircraft, which include Airbus, Boeing, Embraer E195, and Bombardier CRJ-900.

Check-in

The check-in procedure can be completed online as early as 30 hours before the flight leaves. The check-in closes 1-hour before departure. Online check-in will save your time at the airport, especially if you are travelling with carry-on baggage. You can also complete check-in at the airport using the self-service machines. Make sure you arrive at least 2 hours before departure time.

Hand and Hold Luggage allowance

You are allowed to bring a single handbag for free, but it must be compact enough to fit the under-seat area. The size should not exceed 40x30x15 cm. One carry-on bag is allowed on the flight, but it must not exceed 8 kgs. The carry-on bags are for smaller and fragile items, although you can carry additional bags for laptops or other essentials for an extra fee.

Classes of service and Seats

The airline offers different classes to provide you with a smooth and comfortable journey. You can choose between SAS Go and SAS Plus. For the flights to Asia and US, the airlines have a business class too. Each class offers a different level of comfort and different entertainment services. You can book your seats online if you want to choose a comfortable seat. You could also buy a seat with extra legroom for a small fare, although you won’t need that as SAS airlines offer spacious seats.

The entertainment services include a wide range of movies and web series that you can watch for free and with one touch of a button. Play your favourite movie, sit back, and enjoy hours of streaming. For SAS Plus and Business travellers, snacks and meals are served for free. You could also pre-book food or buy food on the flight. They also offer free Wi-Fi. Pets in-flight are allowed, but you must bring them in a small container or a bag that will be counted as your one carry-on bag.
