ITA Airways

ITA Airways is the new national air carrier of Italy created as a result of Alitalia restructuring due to financial issues.

The airline is expected to be the innovative company that will become a reference point for Italy by providing quality connectivity with both international destinations-such as boosting tourism and foreign trade-and within the country -taking advantage of train integrated transportation. ITA Airway aims to provide customers with the best customer service through digitising processes that ensure personalised experiences combined with sustainability aspects such as green aircrafts (new models) and sustainable fuels.

History

Alitalia-Italy's flag carrier launched operations back in 1946. The Italian government owned the company until 2009, when it became a private company after reorganising and merging with Air One, an Italian airline that went bankrupt in 2008. In 2015, Etihad Airways bought Alitalia, which invested $375 million and owned 50 percent of the shares, with Air France KLM Group owning 25%. After being unsuccessful at turning profitable for years, in May 2017, Italy ruled out nationalising Alitalia so as not to burden taxpayers or risk seeing another state bankruptcy. In March 2020, after months of failed negotiations between various companies, Italy took ownership of Alita using public money.

Destinations

ITA plans to serve many destinations (21 in Italy) including {list_destinations}.

By 2025 airline forecasts to double the network of destinations.

ITA Airways also has an agreement with Air Lease Corporation and other aircraft leasing companies to take up 56 aircraft, including the Airbus A220, Airbus A320neo, Airbus A321neo, Airbus A330neo, and Airbus A350.

Check-in

ITA offers online check-in and airport check-in at the counter. Online check-in opens 48h before the flight. For US flights it opens 24h before the flight. It has become popular among travellers to use check-in kiosks at airports as an alternative to classic check-in options. However, please do not rely solely on kiosks. Technical issues may happen and in this case you need to seek help from airline check-in agents.

Hand and hold luggage

The hand baggage you bring on board is limited to 8 kg in weight and 55 cm in height, 35 cm in width, and 25cm in-depth, including handles, side pockets and wheels. To ensure that passengers' hand baggage is not refused at boarding gates, a check should be performed in advance. This can be done by placing it in one of the measurers near the check-in desks or by speaking to any ITA Airways ground personnel.

Services onboard

ITA airways offer a range of onboard services on its flights, including snacks, meals, beverages and even entertainment options such as movies and games.
