Eurowings is the German flag carrier, owned and operated by Lufthansa Group, and has its headquarters in Dusseldorf. The airline serves several destinations across Europe and covers long-haul distances. Eurowings flights operate at several airports located across Austria and Germany. The airline has seen major transformations in recent years. It operates both long and short-haul flights across different continents.

History

Eurowings started in 1993 after the merger of NFD and RFG. The airline was founded in Dortmund, Germany and its main hub is Dortmund Airport. In 1994, the airlines flew the first flight. Lufthansa owned 49% of the company’s shares in 2006. During this time, Eurowings owned Germanwings. However, Lufthansa decided to take over Germanwings in 2008. Today, it has become one of the leading aviation groups and the third-largest European airline in the world.

Fleet

Eurowings own and operate Airbus and Boeing. They have Airbus A319-100, A320-200, and A320neo. They also operate a few wet-leased airbuses and Boeing 737-800.

Check-in

Web and mobile check-in services are available for passengers booking the flight online, especially those who’d like to reserve a seat of their choice. It starts 72 hours and ends 3 hours before the scheduled departure time. You must arrive 3 hours before the departure for the airport check-in. It starts 2 hours before the flight leaves. Priority check-in is available for passengers who need to get their booking done urgently.

Hand and Hold Luggage allowance

Each passenger is allowed to bring a single carry-on, which must be 8kg and 55x40x23 in size. You can bring extra handbags for an additional cost. The handbags can include any one of the following items—a laptop bag, a briefcase, a purse, or a small backpack. You can bring a booster seat for the child, but it must be checked at the airport to see if it fits the airline’s guidelines.

Classes of service and Seats

Eurowings has economy and business classes. They also have separate fares that provide you additional benefits, such as 2 hand luggage pieces, free check-in, priority check-in, etc. The flights have comfortable and spacious seats with sufficient legroom. If the legroom isn’t enough, you can get a seat with extra legroom for a small cost. Seats in the areas with more legroom allow 7 cm additional space.

Services Onboard

You can travel with pets on Eurowings flights, as long as you meet the airline’s guidelines. The animal should be in the carrier bag and it must not weigh more than 8kgs. You can bring cats or dogs, and on short-haul flights only. Meals can be pre-booked. The staff serves a meal, snacks, and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Business-class passengers can also request additional serving of snacks and beverages. The entertainment system is available for passengers in economy and business classes. It includes a variety of entertainment channels, kid’s channels, series, movies, audio channels, etc.
