The airline is owned and operated by the Government of Egypt. It became part of Star Alliance in 2008 in order to provide its passengers with a comfortable in-flight experience.

History

Established in May 1932, Egyptair became the seventh airline in the world. The first flight was flown from Cairo to Alexandria a year after it was founded. It started with the name Misr Airlines, which was later renamed “Misr Air”. The merger of Syrian and Misr Airlines gave the company a new name “Arab Airlines - UAA”. The airline launched the Boeing 707-320c to serve the growing number of passengers, especially international traffic, and travel longer distances. However, their split in 1971 led to the development of Egyptair. It is also the first airline to fly Boeing 707.
