British Airways

British Airways is the flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom based on fleet size. When measured by passengers carried, it is second-largest in the United Kingdom behind easyJet. The company is a subsidiary of International Airlines Group (IAG), which also owns Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling.

Over 40 million customers are served 35 million cups of tea, 36.5 million meals and 3.7 million bottles of wine by the airline each year.

History

British Airways was founded in 1924 as an amalgamation of the British government-owned Imperial Airways and the privately owned British Air Services. It began operating commercially on 1 April 1924 and was renamed British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1939.

The airline's predecessor was established in 1924 as the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). BOAC, along with British European Airways (BEA), was merged into the British Airways Board in 1974 to form British Airways.

Fleet

Currently, British Airways operates a fleet of single aisle Airbus aircraft. Aside from a wide-body aircraft fleet which includes twin-aisle Airbus A350-1000s and Airbus A380s, they also operate a wide-body fleet of Boeing 777s and 787s, the majority of which use Rolls-Royce Trent engines. Additionally, British Airways has an aircraft fleet of more than 280, which includes the 787 and A380.

Online check-in

If you have an electronic ticket (e-ticket) you can check-in up to 24 hours before your flight departs from the UK. You will need your passport details and credit card information.

At the airport

You can also check-in at the airport on the day of travel for flights departing within 24 hours of arriving at the airport or if you're arriving within 24 hours of departing from another destination.

Hand and Hold Luggage Allowances

As a rule, British Airways allows you to bring one main bag as well as a small personal item if you are travelling with only hand luggage. Hence, the state, that your main bag must fit in the sizer; this makes it easier to store in an overhead compartment

Adults and young adults 12 years or older can only carry two bags. Each bag weighs 32kgs/70lbs. Children between the ages of 2 and 11 can carry a maximum of two bags. Each bag contains 32kg / 70lb along with one fully collapsible pushchair and one car seat. And infants under 2 years old can carry one bag weighing no more than 23 kg / 51 lb plus one pushchair (stroller) and one car seat.

Economy Class

The World Traveller Plus offers a little more space and comfort. You’ll have a footrest, larger tray table, added legroom and a personal entertainment system with your own individual screen.

There will also be an eye mask, toothbrush, toothpaste, and socks with a herringbone pattern. In addition to starters, mains, desserts, and hot, cold, and alcoholic beverages, the World Traveller offers two economy fares: Basic and Standard. On longer flights, there will also be an additional meal.

Premium Economy

In the premium economy class (World Traveller+), the seats have a wider seat, lumbar support, a footrest, and extra-legroom relative to the standard economy class.

It offers wider seats and more legroom, a separate, smaller cabin with attentive service, two delicious meals, complimentary bar service including signature cocktails (or mocktail), a personal entertainment system with noise-cancelling headphones, and a stylish amenity kit made from recycled material.

British Airways Economy Premier also gives you more free baggage allowance than standard economy passengers as well as priority boarding.

Business

British Airways Business Class seats are designed for relaxing, sleeping, or getting work done – all at once! The Club World seats are wider than regular economy seats and have more space and privacy. There’s also an extendable leg rest, a padded headrest, a reading light, a footrest, and a fold-out tray table with personal storage space underneath.

In addition to your favourite armchair, your bed, your dining table, and your office; all in one. The Club World seats are designed for relaxing, sleeping, or getting work done with more space and privacy.

First

The Airline offers a choice of hot and cold meals on board all flights, with a selection of drinks available as well. If you prefer to eat before or after your flight, they have an extensive menu for all who want to pre-purchase meals, including full British breakfast, lunch, traditional afternoon tea and dinner.
