As of 2013, Air France serves a large network of destinations within its own country and is a founding member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance. It has 46 million passengers annually-the majority coming from individual or business trips. The corporate headquarters are located on the grounds of Charles de Gaulle Airport north of Paris.

History

Air France was formed in October 1933. It was the result of a merger between Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale (CIDNA), and Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA). During the years 1950-1990, it served as one of three main Allied airlines at West Berlin's Tempelhof Airport and Tegel airport when they were under control by East Germany. Air France has been around for 77 years. It began serving as the primary national carrier of France back then but merged with KLM in 2003.

In 2018, Air France and its regional subsidiary Hop carried 51.4 million passengers worldwide. Air France operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing widebody jets on long-haul routes while using A320 family aircraft for short-haul flights. In November 2009, Air France introduced the A380 with service to New York City's JFK Airport from Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is also used by its regional subsidiary Hop for scheduled domestic and European services using a fleet of small jet aircraft.
